Ebook experimentation

This weekend I have decided to try a little experiment. For a while I have been reading the articles about ebook self-publishing, particularly using the Kindle platform, from authors like J A Konrath, Seth Godin, Amanda Closing, John Locke, and others. As an experiment, I have decided to see what this publishing process is like and how it compares to the traditional publishing process. I have taken the most recent story I have written, THE COMMITTEE, set myself up with an author account at Amazon, and published it as an ebook. The story is about 80,000 words, which would be about 250 pages in a standard trade paperback. I then did the same for a non-fiction piece I wrote a long time ago on conceptual art in New York. Currently, both titles are being reviewed by Amazon before they go on sale. Once this process is through, they can be found here:

So far the process has been surprisingly easy, but then again, I have not put any effort into marketing, advertising, or any kind of publishing strategy. Now that I have a few pieces in Amazon’s system, I am able to see what services they provide to authors for promoting themselves, what support they offer, and what fees are charged. If you have any experiences you want to share, shoot me a message, I’d love to hear!
