Mini displayport to component adapter

How do you connect the mini displayport interface on your macbook to a device with RCA input? This one took me a while…

I have an older macbook that had a mini-dvi port and Apple manufactured a mini-dvi to video adapter that allowed it to connect to s-video or composite (RCA) cables. However, my new macbook has a mini displayport interface instead of the mini-dvi port. As far as I can tell, Apple does not make a mini displayport to RCA adapter.

There are solutions. First, there is a company called XORIES that makes a device called Mini DisplayPort To Composite Video & S-Video Converter. I have not used it and so cannot vouch for it, but it seems to be the most direct solution. It has three plugs, to plug into the mac book: mini displayport, mini-plug audio, and a USB plug (which is used to power the adapter). This device has ports for s-video and composite (RCA) cables to plug into.

Otherwise, what is necessary is to use a mini displayport to VGA adapter (Apple makes this, or you can get one from another manufacturer which is usually cheaper) and then connect this to a VGA to component adapter, of which there are several to chose from.
